Touching Jesus the wrong way

                                                             printable view

A nd Jesus said, "who was it that touched me?" Everyone denied it, and one of his disciples said, "Master, so many are crowding against you and you ask this?".

But Jesus told him it was someone who deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me."

This little passage of scripture speaks volumes about the differences between believing with your lips verses believing with your heart.

This passage is being replayed before our eyes in just about every church in the land. Large congregations crowding in on Jesus and claiming themselves to be his servants, yet no healing power is going out.

Jesus presents himself in a way where he can easily be touched, but we learn from this passage of scripture that everybody doesn't touch Jesus the same way.

The simple fact of the matter is, Jesus knows when he is being touched by someone who truly believes in him. The woman in the story who touched him believed with her heart and put her belief into action.

Imagine someone being diagnosed with a life threatening ailment and being told what their options were. Take cancer as an example. You are advised to seek treatment, so you seek the best treatment you can afford.

You keep trying everything available to you for as long as you have the strength to continue on. You endure the hurdles and bureaucracy you encounter in hopes that you can be cured. Imagine this going on for many years until you have literally tried everything and your condition has only gotten worse. Then you hear of Jesus and his ability to heal.

You say to yourself, why not, I've tried everything else; what do I have to lose? The only catch is you have to go to Jesus and he is a very busy man that is constantly surrounded by mobs of followers.

You can't make an appointment or go to his office like you are accustom to doing when it comes to your treatment.

How much does he charge for his services? Do I need a referral and will this be confidential? What about my medical records, should I bring them? Questions like these are natural because they are inline with the worldly system in which we live.

Oftentimes the worldly process become a stumbling block rather than a enabler of faith. The woman in the story developed a belief in Jesus that was so strong until she laid aside all worldly logic. The power of her faith in Jesus' ability to heal her transcended everything in her life.

Now you forget every type of cure you've tried that hasn't worked and say, "I'm going to Jesus." I'm going just as I am without any medical records or referrals.
