  President Bush issued his state of Iraq address to the nation and I was moved by his enthusiasm.

The way he looked the American people in the eye as commander and chief and all but guaranteed a victory against the extremist and those who are against freedom and democracy.

He never blinked when saying failure isn't an option and he vowed he will continue to take the fight to the enemy.

Armed with General David Petraeus' long awaited report assessing the likelihood of success in Iraq, the president was in rare form trying to convince the world that he knows what he is doing.

The Iraq problem really brings out the ape in George W Bush and you could see it in his eyes.

Mr. Bush was humming like a kitten when he highlighted the report findings.

He really set out to rally the country behind his new winning strategy. He emphasized the 'measurable gains' that could be pointed to and how the events on the ground in Iraq were making tremendous strides in a favorable direction.

The killers are on the run is what the president wanted his audience to take away from his speech. The killers are on the run and this is not the time to stop chasing them.

The surge is working and the country is a lot safer than it was a year ago. The killers are on the run. The president credits his new post Donald Rumsfeld policy for this new change that is taking place in Iraq.

An increase or surge in American troops on the ground in Iraq by some 30,000 is now the president's silver bullet.

In about nine months this silver bullet will have straightened out this whole Iraq mess and everybody should be happy and America will once again be a safe haven for taxpayers.

Selling the new plan

Will this work? This, just give me nine more months to succeed because we owe it to the brave men and women of our military who have died defending freedom?

Just when it looks like the terrorism cow has gone dry, the president goes into the barn and comes out with a pale of milk.

The Iraq war and 911 or now betrothed again thanks to the president's vehement rhetoric on the state of the world, the intent of terrorists and the responsibility of America.

The president probably believes the surge will work if for no other reason, it is the only thing he has going. The reality of this war hit the president years ago but he refused to believe it.

The reality of the Iraq war is this, in order to subjugate a country the size of Iraq you will need about a million troops on the ground indefinitely. All the experts know this along with the president and all his men. They also know we don't have a million troops to spare, so what do you do? You throw a hail Mary and hope for a miracle.

A hail Mary is seen as a final desperate act to go for it all just before all the time runs out. Iraq has been such a complicated mess for the president until he had to open the game throwing hail Marys even though there was plenty time left on the clock. Mr. Bush knows that a good Iraq hail Mary can buy time and time is what he is looking for. Time as in January '09, the date this becomes someone else's mess.
